UPDATED: Tuscaloosa man killed in pipeline accident
Published 4:12pm Thursday, July 1, 2010A gas pipeline worker with Price Gregory International, a gas pipeline company, was killed this afternoon, while working on East Sunset Drive.
According to witnesses at the scene, Steven Mark Johnson, a black male from Tuscaloosa, was working on the pipeline when he was crushed by the large pipe.
Price Gregory International is a leading provider of infrastructure services with focus on pipeline construction and related services. The Company was formed through the merger of H.C. Price and Gregory & Cook Construction, two of the largest contractors with the equipment and capability to build large diameter pipelines.
Officers with the Atmore and Poarch police departments, personnel with Atmore Fire Department, deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and personnel with Atmore Ambulance responded to the scene. Poarch Fire Department was paged out to the scene, but their services were not needed as they were canceled while en route.

It is always so sad to hear of this kind of tragedy on our pipelin jobs, I pray that we ca all pull together and pray for all of those involved as well as for the young mans family. The family will be in our thoughts and prayers always.

The young man killed was a family friend and from Tuscaloosa. I will post the funeral arrangements once they’ve been made and thank you all for your prayers for the family needs them at this time.

Funeral is planned for Saturday at 12 at First Baptist Church in Akron, Alabama about 30 min south of Tuscaloosa.
