All-Stars state bound

Atmore’s 13-year-old All-Stars are advancing to the 2010 Alabama State 13-year-old Babe Ruth Tournament in Demopolis this weekend after defeating Brewton last weekend at the district tournament.

The Atmore All-Stars took two of three games from the Brewton All-Stars to claim the district championship in Brewton.

Brewton 1

Atmore and Brewton came into Saturday’s championship game tied at one win apiece after playing two games Friday night in Brewton.

The championship game would take extra innings as Atmore tied the game in the sixth inning and scored four runs to pick up a 5-1 victory in the eighth inning.

Brewton struck first on the scoreboard scoring their lone run in the bottom of the first as M. Powell reached base on a walk and made it all the around the base path.

It then became a pitchers duel as the two teams battled back-and forth with Tanner Smith pitching seven innings giving up one run.

After going scoreless for five innings, Atmore finally got on the board in the sixth inning as Trey McGhee got on base and was knocked in by Trey Weekes’s double to tie the game at one.

After stopping the Brewton All-Stars in the bottom of the seventh, Atmore took to the plate in the top of the eighth and made the most of their time there.

Four runs came across for Atmore with Coby Smith, Weeks, Nate Smith, Dalton Daniel and Tanner Smith all scoring.

With a 5-1 lead, Atmore replaced Tanner Smith with Tristan McAnally on the mound and McAnally picked up the win as Atmore held off Brewton to claim the district championship.

Atmore’s 13-year-old All-Stars controlled the entire second game of their district tournament match up against Brewton winning 8-5 Friday night in Brewton.

The teams were tied at one run apiece heading into the third inning as Atmore scored four runs with Tristan McAnally, Trey Weeks, Dalton Daniel and Nate Smith all scoring to give Atmore a 5-1 lead.

Brewton responded in the top of the fourth cutting Atmore’s lead to two runs as Williams and Mayo scored making the score 5-3.

After holding Atmore scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, Brewton pushed the Atmore lead down to one run in the top of the fifth as R. Jones made it around the basepath.

Atmore would not be stopped though as they scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull back ahead 8-4 with Coby Smith, McAnally and Nate Smith all scoring runs.

Brewton’s last push for a victory would come up short as they could only score one run in the final inning with Jones scoring his second run of the game.

Brewton’s 13-year-old All-Stars opened their district tournament against Atmore on a high note as they defeated the visitors 5-3 in Brewton Friday night.

Brewton controlled the game from the get-go scoring one run in the second inning, three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Atmore was unable to get much going only scoring one run in the third, one in the fifth and one in the seventh.
