Atmore plays hard at State

The Atmore 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars were eliminated in their bid for a state championship at the Babe Ruth 13U Alabama State Tournament Monday afternoon falling to Theodore in Demopolis.

Atmore was playing for a chance to make it to the championship day of the tournament, but fell short losing 15-1 to the Theodore All-Stars.

Atmore’s All-Stars put up a valiant effort despite the lopsided numbers on the scoreboard.

Atmore put runners on base, but could not get them across the plate when they needed to leaving eight stranded on base.

Prior to playing Theodore, Atmore had to fight rainy weather as well as three other teams in the tournament.

After battling the weather, Atmore’s All-Stars suffered their first loss of the tournament falling short against Wetumpka 8-5 Sunday night.

It was Atmore’s first loss since their opening district tournament matchup against Brewton on July 9.

Coming into the tournament, Atmore had managed to pick up where they left off after defeating Brewton in last week’s district tournament by winning their opening two games.

Atmore opened the tournament on a tear winning their opening game 6-2 over the Huntsville All-Stars, and followed that up up with a 4-1 victory over the hosting West Alabama All-Stars.

Members of the 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team include Coby Smith, Tristan McAnally, Trey Weekes, Dalton Daniels, Nate Smith, Tanner Smith, Brodie Amos, Aaron McDonald, Trey McGhee, Gage White, Billy Powell and Devante Stephens. Coaches are Tim McAnally, Tommy Smith and Jody Dortch.
