ATMORE – John Edward Hooper Sr., 69, of Atmore died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 in Pensacola, Fla.

He served six years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a retired corporal with the Alabama State Troopers, born in Argo on Dec. 30, 1940 to John Oscar and Mary Crow Hooper. He grew up in Trussville and graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School.

His father, John Oscar Hooper; a sister, Dorothy Rhodes, and an infant baby boy, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Virginia Reynolds Hooper, of Atmore; one son, John Edward Hooper Jr. and wife, Dawn, of Pelham; one daughter, Kimberley Hooper Riggs and husband, Mark, of Atmore; mother, Mary Crow Hooper of Birmingham; two sisters, Betty Crowe of Birmingham and Barbara Rich and husband, Ralph, of Childersburg; three grandchildren, Hope and Preston Hooper of Pelham and Alexandra Riggs of Atmore and numerous cousins.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Dukes officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time Saturday morning.
