Atmore Police officers responded to the call of a man being shot at the Montgomery Street location. As officers arrived they were told the victim had been transported to Atmore Community Hospital by private vehicle. Officers traveled to the medical facility and came in contact with the vehicle and proceeded to escort the vehicle to the hospital.

At the hospital officers questioned witnesses who say the victim was shot as he attempted to stop an argument between Jones and an unidentified subject.

Atmore Police officials say witnesses explained McFadden was shot by Jones with a shotgun as he attempted to step between the two involved in the argument. McFadden was shot in the abdomen with the weapon in question.

After being treated at Atmore Community Hospital, McFadden was transported by Lifeflight to U.S.A. Medical Center in Mobile where he is listed in critical condition, according to Atmore Police.

Jones was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where he was booked on the charges stemming from the incident. As of press time Tuesday, he was being held on a $23,500 bond.
