Atmore Utilities Flames win again in Babe Ruth Softball

In Saturday’s Babe Ruth Softball action, there were three games with the Atmore Utilities Board Flames and the Atmore United Bank Silver Eagles facing off in the 10-12-year-old age group, while the Atmore Rotary Club Lions took on the Atmore David’s Catfish Marlins faced off in a doubleheader.

In the match up between the Flames and the Silver Eagles, the Flames were able to squeak out a 6-5 win.

Leading the Flames offensively was Scoteria Riley with two runs, two hits and two RBI. In the first inning, Abby Smith had a run and two stolen bases after reaching first with a walk. Scoteria Riley had a single hit, stole 2 bases and scored a run. In the second inning, after walking to first, Sara Rolin and Nina Wiggins each scored a run and had 1 stolen base. Scoteria Riley hit a single, driving in Sara Rolin and Nina Wiggins. Scoteria Riley then stole all three bases to score. Ciera Stots hit a single and stole two bases. Bianca White walked to first, but was unable to score.

After reaching first base with a walk in the beginning of the third inning, ZyDaja Brown had one stolen base and later scored a run. Darriona Nichols had a single hit, a stolen base and a rbi. Pitching for the Flames was Abby Smith, who struck out six Silver Eagles. Abby Smith and catcher, Scoteria Riley, got two base runners out at home as they attempted to steal.

The Flames dominated the game for the first three innings with two runs in the first inning, three runs in the second and one run in the third. The Silver Eagles rallied in the top of the fourth inning, scoring five runs, however, the Flames were able to hang on for a 6 – 5 victory.

The Silver Eagles got off to a slow start, not scoring in the first three innings. In the 1st inning, Madison Sherouse made it to first with a walk but was unable to score. On defense, pitcher, Jennifer Weaver had two strike outs and fielded a grounder to Carson Barnett at first base for an out. In the second inning, Anna Lisa Boatwright and Zariah Lawson both reached first base on balls but were unable to score. Pitcher, Jennifer Weaver struck out two Flames batters and Carson Barnett made an unassisted out at first base.

Valen Shelly got things going in the third with a single, but was left on third base, unable to score. Pitcher, Jennifer Weaver struck out one batter and caught a pop up. Short stop, Alexus Cooper caught a fly ball. In the top of the fourth inning the Silver Eagles rallied, batting around and scoring five runs. Madison Sherouse, Anna Lisa Boatwright, Aaliyah Williams, Alaina Hodges and Alexus Cooper all reached first base with walks and each scored a run. Eboni Williams, Jennifer Weaver and Anna Lisa Boatwright (2nd time) all reached first base on balls but were unable to score. Caron Barnett had a single hit driving in two runs.

Anna Lisa Boatwright led the Silver Eagles in stolen bases with three, followed by Valen Shelly with two and Carson Barnett, Jennifer Weaver and Aaliyah Williams with 1 each.

Six to Nine

After falling in the first game, the David’s Catfish Marlins were able to win the second game of their doubleheader with Rotary Club Lions 12-7.

Madison Simmons made an out at third base. The Marlins held the Lions in the top of the second inning and came back to score seven runs in the bottom of the inning to get the win. Skyler Riley, pitching for the Marlins, struck out three in the top of the second inning.

Ke’Aunyala Mitchell and Adrianna Parker each had one homerun for the Lions.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lions were able to edge out the Marlins 12-10.

In the first inning, Ke’Aunyala Mitchell had a three-run in the park home run. Also, Adrianna Parker drove in two runs with a triple. Ashlee Bishop, TyQaja Brown, TyAsia Hall, Summer Waters and Trinity Brown also scored in the inning. Corteyia Martin has a base hit.

In the second inning, Mary Thompson Lancaster had a two-rbi single and later scored a run. Jordan Boutwell, TyAsia Hall, Tahoya McGhee, Ke’Aunyala Mitchell and Trinity White all scored runs in the inning. Ashlee Bishop was the pitcher.

For the Marlins, Maddie Presley had a single hit and scored a run. Miah Simmons had a single hit, two RBI and scored a run. Breanna McGowan, Allison Rice and Skyler Riley also scored runs in the inning.

In the second inning, Maddie Presley had a single hit and scored a run. Ragon Lassister, Breanna McGowan, Miah Simmons and Olivia Simmons also scored runs in the inning. Pitching for the Marlins was Skyler Riley.
