‘See You at the Pole’ draws a crowdPublished 3:55pm Wednesday, September 28, 2011
Students, faculty and community leaders gathered at the flag pole in front of Escambia County Middle School Wednesday morning in observance of the annual “See You at the Pole” event.
Celebrated at schools all over the nation, “See You at the Pole” is a yearly chance for Christian students and faculty members to gather together on campus for prayer.
The event began humbly in 1990 in Burleson, Texas but has since spread nation wide and is now celebrated every year on the fourth Wednesday of September at schools across America.
ECMS guidance counselor Cordia Lee said this year’s meeting was completely organized by the students.
Laderien Willis took a break from class work Wednesday to serve as emcee for the event while his fellow classmate Adonis Williams opened the ceremony with a warm welcome and a prayer.
Members of the ECMS Choir performed the national anthem after which Joshua Banks sang an a cappella version of “God Has Smiled on Me.”
Special prayers were then presented by ECMS students Joshua Banks, Garrett Smith, Abraham Banks, Marlon Lee, LaDarrion Johnson and Gaetyn Thames.
Dominique Lee wrapped up the day’s service with an a cappella version of “Lukewarm.”
