Wreck on Hwy. 97 proves deadly

Tichi's skid steer loader was struck by a Ford Explorer as he attempted to cross Highway 97 in Walnut Hill.

A Walnut Hill man passed away Tuesday morning from injuries suffered during a Sept. 29 accident when his New Holland skid steer loader and an SUV collided on Highway 97, near Ficklin Rd.

Sam Tichi, 80, was LifeFlighted to Pensacola Baptist Hospital following the collision, which occurred when Tichi attempted to cross Highway 97, in front of Tichi’s Garage, while in the loader and traveled into the path of aFord Explorer driven by Brittany L. Tutton, 22, of Atmore.

Tutton and a three-year-old passenger, Maddix L. Tutton, were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Brittany Tutton was treated for serious injuries, while Maddix Tutton was treated for minor injuries and released.

The accident was investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Funeral arrangements for Tichi have not yet been released.
