Alto Eagles win opener over Rotary Club Lions

In the opening night of Atmore Babe Ruth Softball for 6-to-9-year-olds, the Alto Products Eagles slipped past the Atmore Rotary Club Lions 11-8 at Tom Byrne Park.

The game was close moving to the final inning tied at 5, but the Eagles were able to hold the Lions’ offense to three runs, while putting six more of their own on the scoreboard.

In the top of the first, the Lions looked strong at the plate jumping out ot a 5-0 lead with Jordyn Boutwell, Summer Waters, Essence Day, Meredith Harrison and Breonna Kyles all crossing the plate.

The Eagles responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, as Ayanna Alexander, Madison Simmons, Breanna McGowan, Khadasia Craft and Shantel Richardson scored.

In the final inning, the Lions took the lead again with three runs from Boutwell, TyDeasia McKenzie and Day giving their team an 8-5 lead.

Their lead would not hold though, with the Eagles earning the win 11-8 thanks to runs from Shelby Rice, Alexander, Simmons, McGowan, Craft and Richardson.
