EA Cougars dominate Saints in Canoe

Escambia Academy Cougars shortstop Jarrett Hadley tags out a runner in the Cougars’ game agains Clarke Prep on Tuesday.

Jarrett Hadley had a perfect day at the plate for the Escambia Academy Cougars in their contest against the Central Christian School Saints on Thursday.

Hadley went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, as the Cougars put together a 12-3 rout at home in Canoe.

The Cougars (13-2) never trailed in the game picking up their first lead with a run in the bottom of the second.

After the Saints tied the game up ini the top of the third, the Cougars took control with another run in bottom of the inning and never looked back.

Escambia Academy opened up their lead in the top of the fourth with a three-run inning to pull ahead 5-1, but allowed the Saints to make the score 5-3 in the top of the fifth.

Those two runs would be the last the Saints would get though, as Escambia Academy put six runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning to go ahead 11-3.

With the lead well in hand, EA put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning with one more run scoring to put the final at 12-3.

On the mound, Reid Bell picked up the win pitching a complete game of seven innings. Bell allowed three earned runs and a homerun in the contest, but struck out 12 batters.

At the plate, Clayton Dyess had  a strong impact for EA going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Michael Thompson hit 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Cameron McGhee went a perfect 2-for-2 in the win with an RBI and scored a run. His brother, Austin McGhee, went 1-for-3 in the contest with two RBIs.

The Cougars next game will be today on the road at Pensacola Christian Academy. Games begin at noon with the junior varsity.
