Taylor West scored the lone run for the Atmore Christian School Lady Rams in the Panhandle Christian Conference West Regional Final last Saturday at Central Christian School in Robertsdale.

West went 1-for-2 with a single and a run scored, as the Lady Rams (7-8, 5-3) were defeated 11-1 by the hosting Central Christian School Lady Saints.

The contest was never really in the hands of the Lady Rams, who scored their lone run in the top of the first, but failed to get any batters across the plate for the remainder of the game.

The loss was nothing the team did wrong defensively, the hits just didn’t fall their way, Lady Rams Head Softball Coach Tim Battles said.

“We didn’t the ball well against Central,” he said. “Central on the other hand really hit the ball. We didn’t beat ourselves in the field on Saturday, but they just hit the ball where we weren’t. Sometimes you don’t play well in the field and give up runs on six or seven errors, but that wasn’t the case against them.”

Following West’s run on a fielder’s choice by Grace Kilcrease (0-for-1, RBI), the Lady Saints took control scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.

Central followed up in the following innings with six runs in the second inning, two in the fourth and two in the fifth to close out the game with the 10-run victory.

It was not all bad news for the Lady Rams though, as three players were named All-Conference with West, Kilcrease and Narisa Wiggins snagging the honors.

The three honorees was an achievement for the Lady Rams, Battles said.

“Taylor, Grace and Narisa were each named All-Conference, which was big for them and for our team,” he said. “We haven’t been able to get that many honored because we have never finished this high, so that was really nice.”

Now the Lady Rams turn their attention to the Panhandle Christian Conference Final Four this weekend in Dothan.

The Lady Rams will go into the tournament looking for good results against tough opponents, Battles said.

“This a big step in the right direction for our program,” he said. “We have a good opponent Friday night in Emmanuel Christian, so we hope to go up there and at least go 1-1.”

Lady Rams 14, Lady Lions 2
Atmore Christian School kicked off the Panhandle Christian Conference West Regional Tournament with a 14-2 victory over the Alethia Christian Academy Lions last Friday in Robertsdale.

The Lady Rams (7-7, 5-3) dominated the match up being led by Bailey Spann, Lauren Metzler and Taylor West. All three Lady Rams scored three runs each with Spann going 1-for-1, while Metzler and West each went 1-for-2 in the contest.

Also scoring runs for ACS were Narisa Wiggins (2-for-4, RBI, R), Grace Kilcrease (1-for-3, R), Kaylynn Swartzendruber (1-for-4, R) and Brianna Pearson (2-for-3, 2RBI, R).
