Three people escaped injury Thursday afternoon after what could have been a much more serious car accident.

An elderly couple driving a Chevrolet Impala ended up in a deep roadside ditch along U.S. 31, in front of Hickey’s service station, after colliding with a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck around 1 p.m.

Witnesses on the scene said they heard the cars collide, but did not see what caused the accident. Both cars were traveling in the  southbound lane at the time of the accident. Alabama State Troopers are investigating the wreck.
