Smith was taken into custody May 10 after being indicted by a grand jury. He was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center on a felony charge of enticing a child for immoral purposes and a misdemeanor charge for having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19 according to officials with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department.

Smith, who was serving as a technical program teacher at ECMS at the time the allegations were made, is facing charges of inappropriate behavior with a 13-year-old student. Smith is reported to have rubbed the child’s back, near her buttocks, inner thigh and “front private” areas.

Smith was released from the detention center after being held on $100,000 bond.

I question the timing of this arrest. Was it delayed to let the administrator of this school retire before it was confirmed. Did it save the face of the BOE? I am dissapointed with the handling of this serious offence, the child that was molested was 13 years old. How many other children did this happen to?
