Children enjoy free swim time during Atmore City Pool's opening week.

Each year Atmore residents know summer has officially arrived when Betty Warren unlocks the gate and opens the Atmore City Pool for another summer.

This year the swimming season got underway Tuesday with registration held at Tom Byrne Park for swimming and tennis lessons as well as public swimming time from 2 until 5 p.m.  Registration sessions will continue until classes are filled and the first session of the year is still open Warren said Wednesday.

Class session one will be held June 4, through June 22. Session two will run from June 25, through July 13. Session three will close out the summer with classes beginning July 15, and running through August 3.
