Members of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians displayed their satisfaction with their governing body, the PCI Tribal Council, over the weekend reelecting all three incumbents during Saturday’s election, including two council seats and the office of vice chairman.

Vice Chairman Stephanie Bryan reclaimed her seat with a majority of votes, receiving 758 nods from the 1265 general members.
Election Board Chairperson Gwen Manning said Bryan’s reelection was an undisputed victory.

“Officer seats have to win by the majority of the voters,” Manning said. “If not, there would have to be a run off. You need to get a least 645 votes to get the majority and Stephanie did get the majority and more.”

Two at large council seats were also up for election in 2012. Incumbents Sandy Hollinger and Keith Martin were each reelected to their seats. Hollinger won with the first highest number of votes, bringing in 729, while Martin came in second with 360. In total 13 other candidates challenged Hollinger and Martin for their seats in this year’s election.

Manning said an amendment was also passed Saturday, with 848 votes, clarifying provisions for filling vacancies of the at large Tribal council seats, as well as those of council officers.
