‘Market in the Park’ fresh once again

Market in the Park was a hit once again this year with both kids and adults.

The sun was out and so were the people Saturday for the first of three “Market in the Park” events, sponsored by the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce and held at the park in front of First National Bank and Trust’s main branch in downtown Atmore.

This year marks the second appearance of ‘Market in the Park’ and chamber director Sheryl Vickery said the response was another good one.

“We’ve had people coming in and out all day long,” Vickery said during the event.

Featured this year, in addition to fresh fruits and vegetables grown no farther than thirty miles from Atmore, were jars of fresh honey, freshly cut flowers, syrup, baked goods and more. For the kids, a bubble station and sidewalk chalk kept them busy and enjoying the outside air, while adults stopped to watch demonstrations from presenters such as Jim Eddins, operator of Perdido Vineyards.

Vickery said the event accomplishes two very important goals: Allowing local people access to fresh foods and other products; and helping out local farmers during a tough economy.

Two more “Market in the Park” events are planned for this summer. Saturday, July 14 and Saturday, August 11 will be the dates for the last two events.
