Council approves sewer work, election officers

Suncoast Infrastructure, Inc. has been awarded a contract with the City of Atmore to perform work on several sewer lines around town, beginning in approximately one month.

The contract was approved Monday during a regular meeting of the Atmore City Council and Suncoast Inc. will now begin prepping for the project, which will cost $445,694.70. The project will be funded by the Community Development Block Grant awarded to the city earlier this year.

• Reported the successful demolition of two sub-standard structures: a house and structure located at 163 Broad Street; a house and structure located at 171 Broad Street. The combined costs of the two demolitions totaled $1,044.72. The council noted the costs will constitute special assessments against the properties and liens on the properties for the amount of the work, and the liens shall continue in force and effect until paid.

• Approved the following persons to serve as election officers at the regular municipal election to be held Tuesday, Aug. 28 and at a runoff election, should one be necessary:
