An Atmore woman was taken into custody Thursday by Escambia County (Fla.) sheriff’s deputies after she allegedly stole items from the Piggly Wiggly grocery store just south of Alabama state line.
Tiara Monique Howard, 18, of 5 Stallworth Street in Atmore, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor petty theft in the second degree after store manager John Webb called the sheriff’s department to report the crime.
According to the arrest report, a store employee notified Webb that a woman was placing items in her purse. After confronting Howard at one of the store’s registers, she reportedly removed a box of chex mix from her purse and stated, “here, I will pay for them.” Webb then informed her he was calling the authorities and instructed her to remain where she was.
According to the report, Howard then left the store and got into a van in the parking lot where she proceeded to remove other items from her purse and place them in the van’s floorboard.
The following items, totaling $44.75, were recovered and returned to the store: Smoked sausage, Hannah’s Red Hots, Tylenol, Midol, Clear Eyes eye drops, Tony’s Seasoning, Chex mix, Pull-ups and Slim Jims (15 pack).
Howard was booked into the Escambia County jail in Pensacola, where she was later released on $500 bond.
