Devils knock off Chiefs in JV action

The Atmore JV football team traveled to Bratt to play the Northview Chiefs and for the second straight time, they came away with the win. While the first game at Herbert Barnes Stadium was a close 8-6 contest, this one was more decisive with a score of 20-6.

Team captains for the Blue Devils were Kody Fountain, Tra’von Williams, Markel Salter and Emmanuel Morris. Team captains for the Chiefs were Robert Elliot, Ryan Lambert, and Dylan Crutchfield.

The Blue Devils scored eight points in the first quarter when running back De’Andrez McCarthy perfected a sweep and followed it with a similar run for the two-point conversion.

Later in the game, the Chiefs were able to counter as DeAndre Bradley found the end zone for six points. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

The Blue Devils answered when Marquis Brooks found a hole in the defense and added six points. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful to make it 14-6.

Emmanuel Etheridge sealed the game when he returned an interception the distance to make the score 20-6. Again, the two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

“The defense was lights out,” head coach Gavin King said.

Atmore JV football will travel to Greenville Monday, Oct. 1. Northview JV will travel to Canoe to play the JV Cougars on Monday, Oct. 1.
