EA volleyball wins big match

The Escambia County volleyball won their first round playoff match against Pickens Academy Monday afternoon in three straight sets.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to an early lead with the score quickly reading 22-13. However, Pickens Academy made a comeback when they brought the score to 23-20. At that point, the Lady Cougars stepped up and put the set away by a final score 25-20. Team captain Breann Rolin, Grayson Emmons and Peyton Snider all had four ace serves. Rolin and Hannah Fountain had three kills as well.

In the second set, the Lady Cougars fell behind early on with the score showing 7-11 at one point. The team battled back to take a 17-15 lead before they won the set 25-21. Fountain led the way with seven ace serves, including the set-winning point. Lacie Flowers contributed four kills.

In the final set, the Lady Cougars jumped out to an early 3-1 lead and never let go. The team won the set 25-17. Once again, Fountain led the way with six ace serves. Sydney McGhee led the team in kills with four.

Overall, Fountain led the team with a total of 14 ace serves, while Lacie Flowers, Sydney McGhee and Breann Rolin tied for the lead in kills with a total of eight.

Following the game Escambia Academy volleyball head coach Erica Hammonds said, “We’re just really excited about making it to the second round. We hope we can play hard and win.”

Escambia Academy will travel to Morgan Academy tomorrow, where the team will play Kingwood Christian at 5 p.m.
