BAY MINETTE – Deacon Joseph Lamar Sr., 66, of Bay Minette transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Mobile Infirmary.

He was a native of Baldwin County (Foley) and had lived in Bay Minette most of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of Douglasville High School. He worked as a juvenile detention officer until he retired.  He was a member and a deacon at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bay Minette. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing.

His parents, Marcus and Bertha Lamar; one sister, Lizzie Andrews and one brother, the Rev. Mark Lamar preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary C.W. Lamar of Bay Minette; one daughter, Katrina Lamar of Bay Minette; two sons, Leonard (Lori) Daniels of Seattle, Wash. and Joseph (Nicole) Lamar Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Fannie James of Bay Minette and Magnolia (Keith) Thomas of Mobile; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bay Minette with the Rev. Elijah Johnson Jr., pastor, officiating. Inhumation will be in the Robinson Cemetery in Stockton.  Public viewing will be held from 2 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at the funeral home. His body will lie in state at the Church from 10 a.m. until service time.
