An incident last week at Holman Prison landed an employee behind bars after she was caught allegedly attempting to smuggle contraband inside the facility.

According to Brian Corbett, public information manager for the Alabama Department of Corrections, Lula Mae Briggs, 60, was randomly searched on her way into the prison last Thursday, Nov. 8. Corbett said Briggs was found to have a cell phone charger and a “green leafy substance” in her front pocket that tested positive for marijuana.

Briggs, who was hired as a steward on April 16 of this year, was escorted out of the prison, arrested by deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department.
