A house fire believed by officials with the Atmore Fire Department to be the result of arson was quickly controlled by fire fighters from Atmore and Poarch Wednesday night.

Fire fighters from both departments responded to an abandoned home on Virginia Drive at approximately 8 p.m. to find the home fully involved, according to Atmore Fire Chief Gerry McGhee.

McGhee said the home had been abandoned for so long it did not have an actual street address, adding, although an investigation had not begun, the fire appeared to be arson.

The blaze was quickly controlled and no one was injured in the incident.
