Armed robbery stopped

An Atmore man is in jail and facing robbery charges after allegedly attempting to steal from the McDonald’s located on South Main Street Monday afternoon.

According to a statement from the Atmore Police Department, Cornelius Hugh Palmer, 19, of Atmore, was arrested after police received a call stating an armed robbery was taking place at the fast food restaurant.

The caller was able to give a detailed description of the suspects and their vehicle, including the license plate number, according to the release. Atmore police officer Leonard Conley responded to the call. Conley pulled over a vehicle matching the suspects’ description at First National Bank and Trust, also located on South Main Street.

Multiple suspects were detained and the victim was driven to the scene and was able to identify the vehicle and its occupants.
Following a preliminary investigation and interviews, only Palmer was arrested, according to the statement.

He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
