Shopping at home has many advantages for Atmore residents, and Wednesday Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce Director Sheryl Vickery was driving home the point as the special guest speaker at the Atmore Lions Club.

Lion Patty Helton Davis said the speech was informative and a great reminder for residents to support their local economy.

“Atmore Lions were given an update on events happening in and around Atmore for the holidays and encouraged to shop Atmore first,” Davis said.  “Also Sheryl shared with the club events upcoming for the new year.”

Included in the many chamber-sponsored events aimed at driving business to local stores is tonight’s annual Jingle Bell Walk, which will feature a host of downtown businesses holding after hours sales on a wide array of items and services.

At Jus Because, owner Tracey Miller said she will offer several deals during the event, including buy one pair of earrings and get the second pair free; buy one purse and get the second half off; 40 percent off Yellowbox shoes; and spend $50 and receive $10 off the entire purchase.

Jus Because is only one example of the many deals to be had at tonight’s event, which will begin at 4 p.m. and wrap up at 7 p.m. Businesses will also offer refreshments and entertainment from the Escambia County High School Choral Group and “Chamber Elves” caroling.

Participating in this year’s event are:  Edward Jones & Co., Coley Petals and Parties, Jus Because, Fabulous Fashions, Pre-Furred Pet Grooming By Holly, The Coffee House, The Roasters Gallery, Bondo’s Sporting Goods, Carl’s/ TheTot Shop, B & G Treasures, Escambia Design and Photography and United Bank – West Side Office (next to Jus Because).
