The Escambia County High School boys’ basketball team moved to 2-0 in the area Tuesday with a 68-60 road win over Clarke County.

The Blue Devils’ improved ball movement was a difference in the game and helped contribute to the win, said coach Earlando Courtney.

“We did well,” he said. “We corrected those problems sharing the ball. We had settled into a mode where everyone tried to take the ball to the hole. We had problems with that early in the year and corrected it then.”

The team had seven assists and only five turnovers in the game, which is an improvement, Courtney said.

“Our execution was a lot better,” Courtney said. “Everybody executed and stayed within their own game. Our shot selection was 100 percent better.”

Fred Knight lell scorers with 27 points and eight rebounds, while Jarvis Knight had nine points with three “crucial” three-pointers and three steals. Desmond Williams scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two blocks. Tyrell Ford and Tony McAlroy had seven points a piece. McAlroy also added four rebounds and three steals.

The win marks the second straight road area win for the Blue Devils. ECHS traveled to UMS-Wright Friday for a third straight area road game, but results weren’t available as of press time.

Area road wins are important for ECHS.

“This could put us in the driver’s seat in the area,” Courtney said. “We control our own destiny, but we have to continue doing what we’ve been doing.”

The Blue Devils’ take on Vigor at 6 p.m. Saturday for their next home game.
