Warhawks lose 68-54 to Bishop State

Leading by three points at the half, 28-25, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team was outscored 43-26 in the second half by Bishop State Tuesday night in Brewton to suffer a 14-point loss, 68-54.

The loss for JDCC was their fourth straight loss and it dropped the Warhawks to 1-15 overall and to 1-5 in conference.

After leading by three points at the half, the Warhawks pushed their lead to seven points—36-29—with 15:45 left in the game. With JDCC leading 37-32 with 15:08, the Wildcats used a 9-0 run to take a 41-37 with 12:10 remaining in the game and never looked back. From there,

JDCC was outscored 27-17 the remainder of the game to take the 14-point loss.

The Warhawks saw eight players score in the first half, but only four scored in the second half.

Chris Oden led JDCC in the loss with 16 points and Dee Jay Braggs followed close behind 14. Matt Bass added eight points and Kenny Nabors had five.

Devonte Pope chipped in four points and Fletcher Forte added three. Anthony Bell and R.J. Bowers both had two points in the loss for the Warhawks.

Bishop State led JDCC 5-0 to start the game, but the Warhawks followed with a 7-0 run of their own to take a 7-5 lead with 16:04 left in the first half. Bishop followed with their own 7-0 run to take a 12-7 lead with 13:03 left to play in the first half.

Just like Bishop ended the game on a 27-17 run, JDCC ended the first half with a 21-13 run to hold the three-point lead at the half.

The Warhawks were 14-for-18 from the free throw line in the loss while Bishop State shot 6-for-11. JDCC was 6-for-7 from the line in the first half and 8-for-11 in the second half while Bishop shot 1-for-1 from the line in the first half and 5-for-10 in the second half.

JDCC will host Faulkner State Thursday night at home in another conference game. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
