Tonight's power outage in north Atmore was the product of a wreck on Carver Avenue.

A single vehicle accident on Carver Avenue was the cause of a temporary power outage along portions of north Atmore last night.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. a white GMC Sonoma traveling eastbound rounded a curve and struck a power pole, causing the pole itself to splinter at its midsection and leaving power lines drooping dangerously close to street level.

The power pole struck by a pick up truck on Carver Avenue was heavily damaged causing a temporary power outage in portions of town.

Jerrei Kyles, whose home sits only feet from the spot of the accident, said he and those in his home heard the collision and called the police. Kyles said the driver, a black male, stumbled away from the accident and began wandering down the street.

Law enforcement officials on the scene said the man was later found at a nearby residence, but were unclear at the time if his condition was the product of an altered state of mind or simply of shock caused by the accident.

Power has since been restored to the areas impacted by the outage caused by the accident.
