Team Titan, the Atmore-based mixed martial arts fighting team went 3-0 with a submission, a technical knockout and a referee stoppage during a showcase at the PCI wellness center Saturday night.
WAR IV, which featured 12 fights in total, was an overall success, said Team Titan coach Jim Jernigan.
“We were at 90 percent capacity,” Jernigan said.
He estimated that turnout for the event that raises money for the team was around 600.
Team member Kyalo Coleman beat Justin Harrison 31 seconds into the first round by technical knockout.
“Coleman circled (Harrison) when his (Harrison) closed the distance, Coleman drove his opponent to the cage where he used a trip to ground him,” Jernigan said. “Coleman followed up by maintaining top control while striking his opponent until (Harrison) until he tapped out.”
It was team member Matt Cooper’s take down of Casey Pollock 46 seconds into the first round that was “highlight reel material,” Jernigan said.
“Cooper used a high-crotch technique, slamming his opponent to the canvas,” he said. “(Pollock) broke free and was able to stand up. Cooper baited him into a straight cross that stopped (Pollock) in his tracks.”
Team member Dallas Shruggs also won his bout against Chris Culbertson by submission in 34 seconds of the first round.
