Atmore man arrested for second time this yearPublished 8:13pm Saturday, February 16, 2013
An Atmore man last arrested less than a month ago in Pensacola was taken into custody today in Atmore on nearly identical charges.
Charlton Orlando Jones, 24, of 705 E. Ridgeley Street, was booked into the Pensacola Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, crack cocaine and powder cocaine, in the second and third degree respectively on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Today, Jones was arrested by agents with the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force and officers with the Atmore Police Department for possession of crack cocaine, with possession of powder cocaine charges pending.
Atmore Officer Jonathan Kelley said units responded to a domestic call at approximately 3:05 p.m. Saturday at Jones’ home.
“Officer Issac Lopez responded,” Kelley said. “Jones got out of the back of the house and took off towards Ashley Street in a light blue Nissan.”
Kelley said Jones was stopped and detained at the intersection of Sinquefield Street and Martin Luther King Avenue.
“Officers noticed the strong smell of marijuana in the vehicle,” Kelley said. “They found .7 grams of crack cocaine in the car and what is believed to be powder cocaine.”
Jones is being charged with eluding an officer and possession of crack cocaine, with other possible charges pending.
