Rain water causing sewage discharges on city streets

Published 8:18am Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Large amounts of rain water over the past several days has resulted in the overflowing of a pair of manholes in town, causing a discharge of raw sewage, according to Kenny Smith, with the Atmore Utilities Board.

Smith said a manhole at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Ridgeley Street, as well as a manhole on Martin Luther King Avenue has been affected.

Smith said residents should avoid any contact with the spilled sewage until the problem has been rectified.
