The Escambia County High School Blue Devils’ baseball team hit their way to a split Tuesday over J.U. Blackshear.

The Blue Devils lost the first game 20-10, but won the second game 17-14 to move to 2-3 on the year.

“We have bats and we can hit, but it’s not to the point where it’s consistent yet,” said Coach Gavin King. “When we get to the point where it’s happening consistently we’ll have a better chance to win.”

Tyler Sansfree struck out six batters in the loss, while Matthew Quimby went two-for-three at the plate with an RBI and David Johnson scored two RBIs.

Quimby pitched seven innings in the second game, despite giving up 10 runs in the first two innings, King said.

“He settled down and had some quiet innings after that,” he said.

Malcolm Black went two-for-three from the plate with three RBIs, while Dandrez McCarthy went two-for-five with four RBIs.

Gage White went three-for-five with three RBIs in the win and Justin Davis went two-for-three with two RBIs.

The Blue Devils traveled to LeFlore Friday afternoon for a junior varsity – varsity doubleheader, but results weren’t available as of press time. The varsity team will play a doubleheader Saturday at B.C. Rain at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
