ECHS baseball moves to 6-4 with win

The Escambia County Blue Devils’ baseball team moved to 6-4 on the year Friday with a 10-0 win over LeFlore High School.

Tyler Sansfree threw all six innings, gave up two hits and struck out eight.

“He pitched a really good game,” said coach Gavin King.

Sansfree also went two-for-three from the plate in the win. Justin Davis went a perfect two-for-two and scored two runs, while Malcolm Black and Matthew Quimby also scored two runs each.

The team now takes a break for exams, but resume play Thursday, March 28 at UMS Wright to start area play.

“We’re going to be heavy underdogs in our area with Thomasville and UMS Wright,” King said. “I’m excited to see what we can do against UMS, one of the best teams in the state.”

King said he’s happy for his players on the 6-4 start.

“It’s really good for the guys who stuck with it through tough times,” he said.

The junior varsity Blue Devils beat LeFlore 14-3 Friday, lost in a doubleheader to Fairhope Saturday and split with J.U. Blacksher Monday.

The Blue Devils lost 7-6 in the first game to J.U. Blacksher and won the second 11-6.

Nytorious Cooler picked up the game two win.

In Saturday’s match up, Fairhope won 19-4 in the first game and 8-7 in the second.

In the second game, the Blue Devils led in the seventh inning, but were unable to hold on, King said.

Daetyn Thames had three RBIs in the game two loss.

Pitcher Tyler Weaver got the junior varsity win over LeFlore Friday.
