Coleman murder trial set

An Atmore man accused of murder now has a trial date and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 9 in Brewton.
Derek Coleman of Atmore was arrested in August of 2011 and charged with attempted murder after authorities found a man badly beaten and bleeding on Airport Road in Atmore.
Escambia County sheriff’s deputies and Atmore police responded to the scene after receiving a call that a black man was lying in the road and looked injured. When officers arrived, they found him bleeding from severe head trauma and multiple abrasions.
Officers were able to get a brief statement from the victim before he was airlifted to a trauma center in Pensacola, Fla. The victim later passed away from his injuries.
According to information from the Escambia County Court House, Coleman was indicted by a grand jury for capital murder.
He remains in the Escambia County Detention Center.
