The Escambia County High School Blue Devils have not played well against area foe Thomasville this season and that continued Friday with a doubleheader sweep for the Tigers.

Thomasville won game one 23-1 and game two 10-0.

The game was still in reach for the Blue Devils, going into the bottom of the sixth only down 5-0, but the Tigers scored five runs in the half inning to end the game, ECHS coach Gavin King said.

The Blue Devils scored their one run of the day on an error.

“We didn’t get anything going offensively and they shelled our pitchers,” King said.

On a positive note, the Blue Devils have six wins this season, which is more than the last two years combined, but the goal now is a 10-win season.

“We’re out of the playoffs now, but we still have seven games left with a lot to play for,” King said. “I told the younger guys that we can use these seven games to get as much better as we can.”

The Blue Devils have games remaining against Clarke County and Vigor, but the Blue Devils must go 4-3 to clinch a 10-win season.

ECHS plays a doubleheader today at Clarke County. The games start at 4 p.m. They host Vigor in a doubleheader Friday, starting at 5 p.m.
