The Northview Chiefs baseball team beat district foe Freeport 12-1 in five innings Tuesday.

The chiefs racked up 10 hits in the game with good situational hitting, said coach Martin Lister.

“We came out in the second inning and put up four,” he said. “We kept hitting. We hit doubles and some triples with men on base.”

The offensive showcase was coupled with a dominating performance by starting pitcher Brannon Freeman, who pitched a complete game with five strikeouts, gave up four hits and one run.

“It was our first complete game this year,” Lister said. “Hopefully we’ll get more.”

Chasen Freeman hit two-for-four with a double, a triple and four RBIs. Kevin Vaughan went two-for-four with an RBI.

Chad Smith went one-for-four with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Winston Riley went one-for-two.

R.K. Pitchett went one-for-two with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Justin Halteman went one-for-two with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

The win moves Northview to 7-6 overall and 7-2 in the district.

The Chiefs are currently the second seed going into the district tournament at Baker. Northview played Baker at home Friday, but results weren’t available as of press time.
