Two Northview High School weightlifters placed in the state meet last weekend in Kissimmee, Fla.

Senior La’Mikal Kyles placed eighth in the 183-pound weight class with a personal best total of 560 pounds lifted. Fellow senior Arkelle Elliott finished 11th in the 199-pound weight class with a personal best of 575 pounds lifted.

The son of Velvet Kyles and Clark Burt benched 310 pounds and clean and jerked 250, both of which are personal bests. The son of Anna Elliott and Barrett Bailey benched 330 and clean and jerked 245.

Coach Derek Marshman said he was impressed with both performances, but especially Kyles, who reached a personal best with each lift.

“There were about 800 to 1,000 people in the stands,” he said. “(Kyles) thrived under pressure and did personal bests.”
