The City of Atmore will play host to a clean-up day aimed at encouraging recycling throughout the town, according to officials at Atmore City Hall.

The clean-up effort will team the City of Atmore with Newark Recycled Paperboard Solutions and will be on site at the Atmore Farmer’s Market, located on North Presley Street, from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, June 29.

According to information released by the City of Atmore, paper, cardboard and plastic items will be accepted.

Atmore Mayor Jim Staff said the drive is an effort to reduce trash around Atmore, while officials look for a more efficient way to run Atmore’ s recycling system.

“We would like to do something that is bigger and better than what we have in place,” Staff said.
Staff said the city has had problems in the past with the recycling bins, which have been removed from the Farmer’s Market location for approximately a week, being used for general trash and is looking for new avenues to best handle Atmore’s recycling needs.

Staff said the city is looking for a more organized and more cost-efficient method of recycling.
