The Escambia County High School Blue Devils football team spent Monday afternoon in the weight room once again preparing for a season in one of the toughest regions in Class 4A football.

Things will get underway for the Devils in a jamboree in Saraland at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23. ECHS will then take on county foe T.R. Miller in Brewton on Friday, Aug. 30 to start the regular season. Head coach Lev Holly said the Tigers’ coaching staff does an excellent job.

“It’s a good test to open the season up,” Holly said. “They’re going to get up for us.”

The first game in September against Clarke County will be the first of seven tough region games for the Blue Devils. That’s Friday, Sept. 6 at home.

“Every last one of them is tough,” Holly said of the slate of region games next season. “I’m really serious. In the last six or seven years the region has produced the champion or sent someone to the championship game.

“It’s like the SEC of 4A,” he added. “It’s a daily grind.”

A game on the road against Wilcox Central follows on Friday, Sept. 13. A home game against UMS-Wright is slated for Sept. 20.

ECHS gets a break from region action on Sept. 27 when they travel to Faith Academy in Mobile. The Blue Devils welcome Thomasville to Atmore on Oct. 4 and travel to Monroe County the next week.

Homecoming is slated for Oct. 18 against region foe Hillcrest-Evergreen before ECHS travels to Andalusia on Oct. 25.

The Blue Devils finish at home against rival Baldwin County High School on Nov. 1.

The team will continue lifting weights throughout the summer, but has a 7-on-7 drill scheduled in Bratt at Northview at 4 p.m. Thursday. ECHS will host a 7-on-7 camp Monday, at 4 p.m. Monday, July 8.
