Four people were taken from the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Alabama Highway 21 by Atmore Ambulance Wednesday just before noon.

According to Atmore police officers on the scene, a U.S. Postal Service mail truck stopping to make a delivery in the southbound highway lane was struck from behind by a Nissan Quest minivan just south of Oak Hill Cemetery.

Cleo Bolar Jr., 59 of Atmore, said he was traveling southbound on Highway 21 when he briefly took his eyes of the roadway, according to the accident report. The report said Bolar stated that when he looked up the mail truck had come to a stop and could not avoid hitting the vehicle from behind.

Bolar and his two passengers, Essie McNeal, 59, and Vanessa McNeal, 39, both of Atmore, as well as Anita Maryland, the 45-year-old postal worker, were taken to Atmore Community Hospital for treatment.
