Dallas Scruggs of Uriah will be on of 16 fighters competing in next Saturday’s event.

The biggest showcase of mixed martial arts fighters to ever come to the Atmore area is planned for Saturday, July 13.

Warrior Promotions’ War V event will be held at 7 p.m. the Poarch Creek Indian Recreation Center. Organizer and local MMA coach Jim Jernigan said he expects tickets for the 250 available seats to sell quickly.

“This will be the biggest event to date in the number of fights,” Jernigan said.

There will be 16 fights total including “a couple of must see kind of fights,” he said.
In those fights, Brandon Jenkins, of Crestview, Fla. will battle Renden Russell of Auburn.

“These two guys pair up well,” Jernigan said.

The other “must see” fight pairs Dallas Scruggs, of Uriah, and Luger Boswell, of Red Level. Scruggs is an unbeaten 5-0, while Boswell has a 12-1 record.

“Neither one of these guys has been stopped in competition,” Jernigan said. “They have similar fighting styles.”

Members of the local Team Titan group that will fight during the event are: Justin Ramer, of Perdido; Caleb Coleman and Kevin Gardener, both of Monroeville.

Atmore independent fighter Michael Mitchell will also participate in a new move by promoters to allow independent fighters a chance to showcase their talents.

“We’ve opened it up to local guys who are training,” Jernigan said. “We want to give them an opportunity to compete like everyone else.  Hopefully it will grow the sport in the community around us and create a bigger draw.”

The event will begin with a weigh-in at Wind Creek Casino and Hotel on Friday at 7 p.m. where, Jernigan said, fans could have better interactions with the fighters slated to compete on Saturday.
