Walnut Hill teen injured in Sunday wreck

A Walnut Hill teenager suffered serious injuries after the 2008 Mercury Milan he was a passenger in collided with a 1993 Cadillac Deville in Pensacola at the intersection of 69th Avenue and Lillian Highway.

According to the crash report, Deonte E. Mitchell was injured Sunday at 2:15 p.m. when the car he was traveling in, driven by 24-year-old Marshall Scott Gilson Jr. of Pensacola, entered the intersection and struck the right side of the Cadillac, being driven by Anja M. Gullen, 46 of Pensacola. Gilson’s vehicle was traveling south at an excessive speed just prior to the accident, according to the report, and after the collision, rotated counter clockwise with the side of the car striking a traffic pole and the rear colliding with “numerous trees.”

Also in the vehicle with Gilson and Mitchell were 22-year-old Kenneth J. Nettles of Pensacola and an unidentified passenger, known as John, who fled the scene on foot for unknown reasons, according to the report. Both men suffered only minor injuries. Gullen and passenger Sarah J. Morgan, 22 of Pensacola, were taken to Baptist hospital with serious injuries. Mitchell was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment.

Gilson was issued a citation for driving to fast for conditions and driving without a license, while Gullen was cited for driving with an expired driver’s license.
