Jones, 22, stands accused of murder in connection with the shooting death of 38-year-old Kendrick Lamon Dortch in June of 2012 outside Dortch’s business – only blocks from Atmore Police Department.

Jones was arrested, along with then-16-year-old De’Anthony Dailey, and was originally charged with robbery relating to the burglary of a vehicle on the premises. When Jones’ court date was continued in June, District Attorney Steve Billy said the charges were upgraded to murder following his arrest.

“They charged him with burglary of a vehicle at the time of arrest,” Billy said. “After the investigation unfolded he was charged with felony murder. After we took the witness statements, we went ahead and indicted him.”

Dailey, who authorities said they believe pulled the trigger, was charged as an adult with capital murder and remains in jail at the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton on no bond
