Officials with United Bank are looking for “Rock Stars” to join an upcoming fundraiser for the Escambia County chapter of the American Red Cross.

The fundraising campaign is scheduled to begin with a rocking chair Rock-a-Thon in Atmore and Flomaton on Tuesday, Aug. 6 and will feature some well-known locals dressed as their favorite rock stars.

According to United Bank representative Greg Walker the Rock-A-Thon is a new way to have fun while donating to a good cause.

“Local team captains have been selected for rocking chairs and will be recruiting ‘rock stars’ to join them in 15-minute increments for these very special ‘rock concerts.’”

United Bank CEO Bob Jones said the event is only the beginning of a campaign aimed at helping families working to recover from natural disasters.

“It is always fun when great people come together to support a great cause,” Jones said. “As a bank, we have seen first-hand the impact disasters such as tornadoes and hurricanes can have on families and business. We are proud to supportthis effort, and the fact that funds are raised locally and then stay in our community makes it even more special as neighbors work to help neighbors.”

To be a part of the Atmore “Rock-a-Thon” or support a team in Atmore, residents can contact Jessica Lowell at United Bank at 251-446-6018 to find a “lead singer” and join a “band.”  To participate in Flomaton event, call Danyelle Boutwell at 251-296-3493. Supporters can also purchase a Red Cross in the branch to be displayed through the month.

Funds will be presented to the Escambia Chapter of the American Red Cross at the end of the campaign, which will take place on Aug. 31.
