Leadership Atmore applications still available

Openings are still available for the 2014 Leadership Atmore program, but the deadline to sign up is getting close.

Leadership Atmore, which is coordinated by the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce, is a nine-month program designed to identify and develop the leadership potential in the community. Participants complete an overnight retreat, seven full-day sessions, and advance to graduation. These sessions cover a variety of subjects, including “Leadership Skills” in October, “Healthcare” in December and “Law Enforcement” in February, among others. The overnight retreat opens the program’s schedule and is held in September at Camp Beckwith on Weeks Bay. Graduation is in May 2014.

The class members will be selected in mid-August, so there is not much time left to turn in applications. Applications to nominate class members are available at the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce, 501 S. Pensacola Ave., or by emailing atmoreal@frontiernet.net.

“Leadership Atmore continues to be one of the chamber’s most-successful programs,” said Sheryl Vickery, executive director of the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce. “All participants come away with a broad knowledge of Atmore, including its strengths, weaknesses and the challenges the community faces.

“An added and often unexpected bonus is that you also come away with a great new group of friends.”

Nominees should be individuals who have a desire to lead and who would benefit from the information the program teaches. Self-nominations are encouraged.

Nominations will be submitted to an 11-member steering committee, who will then select the class members. Tuition is $425 and scholarships are available.
