Two men were hospitalized after a Monday night altercation at a bar escalated into a knife fight, Escambia County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said.

Lambert said deputies responded to a call involving a physical altercation at The Tavern located on U.S. 31 South in Atmore.

“When our officers arrived they found two injured individuals,” Lambert said. “Apparently, sometime after closing, the two men got into an altercation in the parking lot of The Tavern and it escalated. The injuries were apparently inflicted by knives of some sort and both victims required medical attention.”

Lambert said no motive has been determined that led to the altercation between the men.

Injured were Nicholas Leon White of Walnut Hill, Fla., and Jason Atkins of Mendenhall, Miss., Lambert said.

“One of the victims had a cut or stab wound to the neck,” Lambert said. “The other victim had been stabbed three times in the chest. Both men were transported to Atmore Community Hospital to be treated for the injuries.”

No charges have been filed in the case, Lambert said.
