Atmore’s Women of Distinction are typically busy raising funds for gas cards to be handed out to cancer patients who must travel regularly for treatment, but Wednesday group members came together to present a different kind of aid.

The WOD presented 2013 Escambia County High School graduate Bria Willis with a scholarship to help with her freshman year of college, which Willis said will begin Monday.

Willis said she plans to declare as a biology/pre-med major with a goal of becoming a rural family physician. Willis said she has considered returning home to Atmore to practice medicine.

“I’d like to come back to Atmore,” Willis said. “I want to stay in the south.”

WOD members Rita Bullard, Celia Betts, Yolanda Webster, Joann McCracken, Paula Adams, Fannie Tarver and Stephanie Barnes were on hand to present Willis with the scholarship.
