PCI sets new fall opening date for entertainment complex

The new Poarch Band of Creek Indians Entertainment Complex was originally set to open over the Fourth of July holiday. The date was later changed to late August or early September, but now Theater Director Mark Vaughan says that date has been pushed back to Thursday, Oct. 31.

Vaughan said the Halloween-day grand opening would give his crews time to wrap up construction that has taken longer than was expected to complete.

“We’re holding the grand opening on Halloween,” Vaughan said. “Our main two attractions — the bowling alley and the movie theater — the core of them are done.”

Vaughan said construction of the bowling alley and PCI movie theaters are coming along well. The bowling alley has been dubbed “Strikes” by organizers.

“The bowling alley’s looking really good,” he said. “We have our bowling floor down and everything. We’ve even tested it out and thrown a few balls. The cinema is coming along nicely as well. We have the projectors installed and the carpet down and we’re pretty much good to go on that end.”

While work on the complex’s two main attractions is nearing an end, Vaughan said other amenities still require some work and some overall “details” must be ironed out, before the facility can open to the public.

“We still have the restaurant to go and all of the inside, as far as putting down tile and that sort of thing,” Vaughan said. “We’ll be putting the furniture in on Sept. 23 and we’re also coming along real well in our yogurt bar.”

While Vaughan said that pushing the opening date back by more than a month is unfortunate, but it was necessary to ensure the complex’s first night in operation is as enjoyable as possible for guests.

The new PCI Entertainment Complex is slated to include: Strikes Bowling Alley — open from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. until midnight, Friday and Saturday; cinema — open from 1 p.m. through 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 1 p.m. until midnight Friday and Saturday; Overtime Restaurant and Bar — open from 11 a.m. through 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. until midnight Friday and Saturday (bar closed on Sunday).
