Mary L. Stevens

Ms. Mary L. Stevens, 68, of Stockton, transitioned to her eternal home on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at her residence.

She was a Baldwin County native and a graduate of Douglasville High School and Faulkner State Community College, with a degree in Early Childhood Development.

She was a member of Zion Fountain AME Zion Church, where she served as an usher, member of the Sunday school and the inspirational choir. She was a retired Head Start teacher with 29 years of service, before retiring in 2003. In her leisure time before her illness, she enjoyed reading and playing softball.

A son, Kelvin Stevens, and her mother, Gasque M. Joseph, preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish the memories of her life are two daughters, Yvonne Stevens and Yolanda Stevens, both of Stockton; two sons, Derrick Stevens of Wilmington, Del., and Clavis Stevens of Junction City, Kan.; two sisters, Jerridine Perryman of Atmore and Quinzella Templeton of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Augustine Stevens of Stockton, and Collins Stevens and Douglas Joseph, both of Salinas, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. at Zion Fountain AME Zion Church in Stockton, with the Rev. R. L. Dockery, pastor, officiating. Inhumation was in the Robinson Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC, of Atmore directing.
