The Northview Chiefs pitched their second straight shutout over a Class 1A, District 1, opponent Friday night, as they defeated Freeport 35-0 in a homecoming game in Bratt.

Northview led 21-0 at halftime and only allowed the Bulldogs into the red zone on one defensive possession.

“I thought it was a really good effort, especially by the defense,” coach Sid Wheatley said. “We’re starting to really instill some pride on that side of the ball.”

After starting the season 1-3 against a non-district slate that features mostly larger schools, the Chiefs have since won two straight over district opponents. They beat Jay, 26-0, in an Oct. 4 game.

Friday, Northview scored on its opening possession of the game, putting together a six-play, 93-yard drive. Keondrae Lett had the big play in the drive, taking a reverse handoff 77 yards for a touchdown. Northview missed the extra point and led 6-0 with 6:42 left in the first quarter.

In the middle of the second quarter, Northview quarterback Daulton Tullis scrambled around on a third-and-13 play before finding Neino Robinson open for a 41-yard reception. On the next play, Lett scored on a 6-yard touchdown run. Tullis completed a pass to Cameron Newsome for the two-point conversion, and the Chiefs led 14-0 with 3:42 left in the second quarter.

Even later in the first half, Tullis connected with Robinson for a 53-yard touchdown reception. Brannon Freeman added the extra point to increase the Chiefs’ lead to 21-0 with 1:40 left in the second quarter.

Robinson found the end zone again two more times in the second half. First, he caught a 41-yard touchdown reception from Tullis with 8:54 left in the third. The extra point failed and the Chiefs led 27-0.

Robinson also scored on a 62-yard punt return with 6:53 left in the third quarter. Tullis completed a pass to Newsome for the two-point conversion.

Northview will travel on the road next Friday, to face Walton.
